BGL Bad Golf League
Official Rules & Regulations
Play Bad, Look Good, Have Fun!
Welcome to the Bad Golf League!
Congratulations on becoming a member of the most fun golf league on Earth! These rules are designed to maximize enjoyment, minimize pretentiousness, and celebrate the beautiful chaos of bad golf.
The Golden Rule: If you're not having fun, you're doing it wrong. Golf is hard, and we're here to embrace that together!
Core Principles
Principle 1: Embrace the Bad
We don't judge your score. Whether you shoot 80 or 180, you're equally welcome. In fact, higher scores often make for better stories!
Principle 2: Look Good Doing It
Bad golf doesn't mean bad style. Wear your BGL gear with pride and remember: confidence is the best accessory.
Principle 3: Sportsmanship First
Be kind, be supportive, and celebrate everyone's small victories. Someone sank a 3-footer? That deserves applause!
League Play Rules
Format & Scoring
Modified Scramble: Everyone plays their own ball, but you can take one mulligan per 9 holes (no questions asked)
Max Score Cap: Triple bogey maximum per hole to keep things moving
The Breakfast Ball: First tee shot doesn't count if you don't want it to. We've all been there.
Honesty System: Keep your own score honestly, but don't stress about every stroke
Pace of Play
Ready golf is encouraged - hit when ready, not based on honors
If you're holding up play, pick up your ball and move on
Maximum 5 hours for 18 holes (this includes snack breaks)
Carts should move efficiently between shots
Equipment & Attire
Any clubs are fine - fancy or hand-me-downs, we don't care
Collared shirts or BGL gear required (we have standards, kind of)
Golf shoes recommended but not required
No denim jeans on the course
Competition & Tournaments
Monthly Tournaments
Tournament Structure
Monthly themed tournaments with fun formats like:
Worst Ball (yes, you read that right)
Cha-Cha-Cha (best two out of three shots)
Shamble with a Twist
Mystery Partner events
Awards & Recognition
Top Duffer: Highest score with the best attitude
Most Improved: Biggest score improvement over the season
Best Dressed: Because style matters
Closest to the Pin: On par 3s (even if it took you 5 shots to get there)
Longest Drive: That stayed in play
Behavior & Etiquette
Do's
Cheer for your playing partners' good shots
Laugh at your own bad shots (humor is mandatory)
Fix your divots and ball marks
Rake bunkers (even if you visited them multiple times)
Keep the vibes positive
Help look for lost balls (within reason)
Share your snacks and drinks
Don'ts
No throwing clubs (we're bad, not angry)
No unsolicited swing advice (unless asked)
No complaining about course conditions (we make do)
No phone calls during play (this is social time)
No shaming anyone's score or ability
No taking golf too seriously
Remember: We're all here to have a good time. If someone's behavior is ruining the experience, let a league organizer know.

Handicap & Scoring System
BGL uses a relaxed handicap system designed for casual play:
Establishing Your Handicap
Submit your best 5 scores from your last 10 rounds. We'll calculate a fun, unofficial handicap that keeps things competitive and fair.
Adjustments
Handicaps are updated quarterly. If you're consistently scoring lower (or higher), we'll adjust accordingly.
Sandbaggers Beware: While we keep things casual, intentionally inflating your handicap for competitive advantage is poor form and may result in membership review.
Social Events & Activities
BGL is more than just golf! We host regular social events including:
Post-round happy hours and dinners
Season kickoff and closing parties
Top Golf nights
Charity tournaments
